ACTIVE INGREDIENTS:
B12
Vitamin B12's primary functions are in the formation of red blood cells and the maintenance of a healthy nervous system. B12 is necessary for the rapid synthesis of DNA during cell division. This is especially important in tissues where cells are dividing rapidly, particularly the bone marrow tissues responsible for red blood cell formation. If B12 deficiency occurs, DNA production is disrupted and abnormal cells called mega oblasts occur. This results in anemia. Symptoms include excessive tiredness, breathlessness, listlessness, pallor, and poor resistance to infection. Other symptoms can include a smooth, sore tongue and menstrual disorders. Anemia may also be due to folic acid deficiency, folic acid also being necessary for DNA synthesis.
B12 is also important in maintaining the nervous system. Nerves are surrounded by an insulating fatty sheath comprised of a complex protein called myelin. B12 plays a vital role in the metabolism of fatty acids essential for the maintenance of myelin. Prolonged B12 deficiency can lead to nerve degeneration and irreversible neurological damage.
When deficiency occurs, it is more commonly linked to a failure to effectively absorb B12 from the intestine rather than a dietary deficiency. Absorption of B12 requires the secretion from the cells lining the stomach of a lipoprotein, known as intrinsic factor. The B12-intrinsic factor complex is then absorbed in the ileum (part of the small intestine) in the presence of calcium. Certain people are unable to produce intrinsic factor and the subsequent pernicious anemia is treated with injections of B12.
Vitamin B12 is excreted in the bile and is effectively reabsorbed. This is known as enter hepatic circulation. The amount of B12 excreted in the bile can vary from 1 to 10ug (micrograms) a day. People on diets low in B12, including vegans and some vegetarians, may be obtaining more B12 from reabsorption than from dietary sources. Reabsorption is the reason it can take over 20 years for deficiency disease to develop in people changing to diets absent in B12. In comparison, if B12 deficiency is due to a failure in absorption it can take only 3 years for deficiency disease to occur.
HOODIA
Desert Plant is Promising Appetite Suppressant and Weight Loss Supplement
If you haven't heard about the supplement hoodia gordonii, there's no doubt you will very soon. Hoodia, a natural appetite suppressant, is earning attention as a potentially powerful weapon in the war against obesity and the American focus on losing weight. Hoodia supplements were just introduced to the U.S. market in early 2004.
Here are some key points about hoodia that you need to know:
Hoodia gordonii looks like a cactus, but it's actually a succulent from the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa. Bushmen from the area have been using hoodia for centuries to help ward off hunger during long trips in the desert.
Hoodia gordonii is entirely natural -- it is not a drug. Pharmaceutical companies find it so promising, however, that they are trying to isolate the appetite-suppressing molecule, P57, to create a patented diet drug in the future.
Only the gordonii variation of hoodia has appetite suppressant abilities.
Hoodia tricks the brain into thinking you've eaten, and makes you feel full.
Hoodia may work right away, or may take several weeks.
Key results of hoodia reported include a reduced interest in food, delay in the time after eating before hunger sets in again, feeling full more quickly, and a general feeling of well-being
Hoodia gordonii is not a stimulant, and has no known side effects.
Hoodia appears to be safe for most people.
DMAE
DMAE alleviates the behavioral problems and hyperactivity associated with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) [DMAE increases Attention Span, decreases Aggression, improves Learning ability and sometimes increases Intelligence in 70% of ADD patients].
DMAE may improve Athletic Performance (by improving the body’s production of Energy) [anecdotal reports: many athletes report increased subjective feelings of Energy following DMAE supplementation].
DMAE increases the body's production of Energy and persons using DMAE subjectively report increases in their levels of Energy.
DMAE increases Alertness.
DMAE alleviates Anxiety
DMAE increases Assertiveness
DMAE reduces Apathy and increases Motivation in persons afflicted with Depression.
DMAE improves the Interhemispheric Flow of Information in the Corpus Callosum of the Brain (thereby improving Creativity and Verbal Fluency).
DMAE improves the behavior and Mental Function of children afflicted with Down’s syndrome.
DMAE exerts favorable effects on those chronic Dyskinesias
DMAE increases Intelligence (especially in children).
DMAE improves Learning and Memory.
DMAE decreases the accumulation of Lipofuscin within the Brain.
DMAE elevates Mood
DMAE reduces the amount of Sleep required by about 1 hour per night
DMAE increases daytime motivation and physical Energy in persons afflicted with Insomnia.
CAFFEINE
Caffeine increases the level of circulating fatty acids. This has been shown to increase the oxidation of these fuels, hence enhancing fat oxidation. Caffeine has been used for years by runners and endurance people to enhance fatty acid metabolism. In North America, 90% of adults consume caffeine daily.
TYROSINE
tyrosine may help people with depression. Preliminary findings indicate a beneficial effect of tyrosine, along with other amino acids, in people affected by dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. Due to its role as a precursor to nor epinephrine and epinephrine (two of the body’s main stress-related hormones) tyrosine may also ease the adverse effects of environmental, psychosocial, and physical stress.
MAGNOLIA BARK
Magnolia bark (Magnolia officinalis) is a traditional Chinese medicine (where it is known in TCM as houpu or hou po) used since 100 A.D. for treating "stagnation of qi" (low energy) as well as a variety of syndromes, such as digestive disturbances caused by emotional distress and emotional turmoil. Magnolia bark is used as a general anti-stress and anti-anxiety agent - so its claims typically center on general benefits in controlling stress and anxiety. Newer claims are emerging, however, to link magnolia's anti-stress benefits with control of the body's primary stress hormone, cortisol, and the myriad health benefits associated with normal cortisol levels (versus elevated cortisol, which has been associated with obesity, diabetes, osteoporosis, memory problems and suppressed immune function).
RHODIOLA
Rhodiola Rosea is a popular plant in traditional medical systems in Eastern Europe and Asia with a reputation for stimulating the nervous system, decreasing depression, enhancing work performance, eliminating fatigue, and preventing high altitude sickness. Rhodiola rosea has been categorized as an adaptogen by Russian researchers due to its observed ability to increase resistance to a variety of chemical, biological, and physical stressors. Its claimed benefits include antidepressant, anticancer, cardioprotective, and central nervous system enhancement. Research also indicates great utility in asthenic conditions (decline in work performance, sleep difficulties, poor appetite, irritability, hypertension, headaches, and fatigue) developing subsequent to intense physical or intellectual strain. The adaptogenic, cardiopulmonary protective, and central nervous system activities of Rhodiola rosea have been attributed primarily to its ability to influence levels and activity of monoamines and opioid peptides such as beta-endorphins.
GREEN TEA
Is any other food or drink reported to have as many health benefits as green tea? The Chinese have known about the medicinal benefits of green tea since ancient times, using it to treat everything from headaches to depression. In her book Green Tea: The Natural Secret for a Healthier Life, Nadine Taylor states that green tea has been used as a medicine in China for at least 4,000 years.
Today, scientific research in both Asia and the west is providing hard evidence for the health benefits long associated with drinking green tea. For example, in 1994 the Journal of the National Cancer Institute published the results of an epidemiological study indicating that drinking green tea reduced the risk of esophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent. University of Purdue researchers recently concluded that a compound in green tea inhibits the growth of cancer cells. There is also research indicating that drinking green tea lowers total cholesterol levels, as well as improving the ratio of good (HDL) cholesterol to bad (LDL) cholesterol.
To sum up, here are just a few medical conditions in which drinking green tea is reputed to be helpful:
Cancer
Rheumatoid arthritis
High cholesterol levels
Cardiovascular disease
Infection
Impaired immune function
CINNAMON
Cinnamon comes from the inner bark of the shoots of a tree (Cinnamomum Zeylanicum) that grows predominantly in India, China, and Ceylon. The inner rind when dried and rolled into cylinders, forms the cinnamon of commerce. The fruit and coarser pieces of bark when boiled yield a fragrant oil. Cinnamon is aromatic and one of the best tasting spices. In recent years scientists have discovered that cinnamon extract has strong antioxidant activity and has the potential to help maintain healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels. Patients with diabetes may find cinnamon to be a healthful addition to their diet.
One of the oldest remedies used in traditional Chinese herbalism for digestive support, recent studies have shown cinnamon (Cinnamomum aromaticum) may support healthy blood sugar levels, when used as part of your diet, by activating insulin and glucose transport and improving glucose metabolism.
GUGGELSTERONES
As stated, orally administered guggulipid increases T3 (tryiidothyronine) levels in animal models. T3 is the conversion product of T4, which is produced by the thyroid gland. Thyroid hormone levels are intricately involved in metabolic homeostasis. Increased thyroid levels cause more fat to be burned and decreased levels increase the likelihood of fat being stored. When one normally goes on a diet, the body responds by decreasing T3 levels and thus decreasing metabolic rate. But if T3 levels are increased, diets are much more effective at causing fat loss . It has not been established how guggulipid increases T3 levels, but the prevailing theory is that it is by decreasing lipid per oxidation .
What other benefits does guggul have?
Cholesterol reduction
Anti-inflammatory
Reduction in acne
Reduced oxidative stress
TONGKAT ALI
Most people know that androgen hormones such as DHEA, Testosterone, and Progesterone are responsible for sexual wellness and sexual function. However, did you know that these hormones also play an integral role in controlling energy, muscle formation, weight, mental well-being, bone formation, and the immune system? Androgen levels decline with age in both men and women. Tongkat Ali Root Capsules supplement the body's endocrine system to promote the healthy production of Androgen. If you are feeling the signs of low androgen production associated with aging, supplement your diet with Tongkat Ali.
Testosterone level decreases steadily with age. Studies show that the level of testosterone is at its peak (100%) around age 20, and ends at only 20%-50% at age 80, with an average decline of 2% yearly. In fact, many men's testosterone levels diminish to below the deficient threshold of 350ng/ml at age 50 to 60. Normally, 500-1,100 Mg/ml of testosterone should be in the blood. Therapeutic levels range around 1500ng/ml (Dr. Suhaimi Muhammad, Institute Technology MARA, Pahang Branch). For women, the ovaries are responsible for 40% of the body's production of testosterone. As testosterone levels decline, women will experience fatigue, weight gain, low physical and mental energy, and lack of sexual desire.
BIOPERINE
Bioperine several of the top fat burners on the market today contain Bioperine, which is an patented extract of the black pepper and long pepper berries harvested in India.
Bioperine's value is that it has been established to enhance the bioavailibility of certain supplements through increased absorption. In other words, when combined with Bioperine, numerous vitamins, minerals, amino acids and anti oxidants are more efficiently absorbed and utilized in the body. Because of its ability to create enhanced and more efficient means of nutrient transportation into the bloodstream, Bioperine may have a positive effect on thermogenisis, which would lead to a slightly elevated metabolism.
That not withstanding, Bioperine's real, proven value is in it's ability to enhance the absorption of various nutrients -- and that is the main benefit it provides to any fat burner compilation.
LBI Nutrition's M-80 product is intended to be used as part of a total weight loss program including a healthy diet and exercise. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Not intended to treat, prevent, mitigate or cure disease. User results may vary. You should check with you doctor before starting any supplement to see if it is right for you.
